A little bit about Joey O'Connor...
Okay, first and foremost, I'm husband to Krista (ready to celebrate 20 years of marriage) and the dad of four great kids. Love being a dad. I'm the author of eighteen books for couples, parents, teenagers and kids. The founder and executive director of The Grove for the past 5 years. Love to read, write, exercise, and dabble in painting. Served at Coast Hills church in Aliso Viejo for 11 years as a pastor. My passions are learning, art, creativity in the Church, meeting others passionate about God and creating great good for our culture. A good cup of coffee and conversation is always welcome.
I'm grateful for a wonderful family, friends, incredible board of directors and walking in the mysterious wonder-filled journey of life.
PS: That there picture of me in the corner is me on the boat going to Robben Island in South Africa. In the background is Table Mountain...an absolutely gorgeous day. Last summer, 3 of my kids and I had the chance to go on a missions trip in South Africa. On Robbin Island, the four of us stood at Nelson Mandela's jail cell, where he stayed for 17 years (out of a 27 year confinement). Amazing...

Oh my! When God moves He moves. I wish we had a chance to connect before we left. We are acclimating...once we figured out the layering of clothes thing. It's a beautiful place and God has definitely given us a heart for this place and the people. Chris is a Harvard Chaplain. Our little man, Royce, is growing by leaps and bounds!
Our church is a relatively young church, average age 27 and students from Harvard, MIT and surrounding schools. Definitely a different culture from South Orange County, that desperately needs to experience the power and love of God. They need to learn what it means to walk in the liberty of Christ and that God's grace is given and not earned. These kids are entrenched in a "performance-based" culture. We have our work cut out for us...but we must remember that it's God that does the work and we show up where He calls us.
Love the new website! There are so many creative people here that don't know what to do with it in the church. I am so thankful and grateful that this is your ministry, it's so needed!!!! We are starting a VA Ministry here and I will be regularly coming to this site!
How are things with you? We heard that you are no longer in the building. Please keep in touch, we need the California sunshine and beach-life!
Take care and God bless!
Best regard.
I have these paintings ( The Trinity) there on my page that I need to find a place for. Right now as you know we live in Australia and in the near future will have no place to store them. They are rather large. They also light up with flourescent light.Just wondering if you have any suggestions of what to do with them. I'm willing to donate them or to anyone who has a place for them. We travel from Australia to the states a couple times a year. We will be here till Feb. then were off to OZ and back in Aug/Sept. I know you just posted on what are your needs as an artist. Right now there in a closet of a house that is going to be put up for sale. Thanks for your time and thanks again for this site.
Thanks so much for keeping me posted on the events at the Grove Center.
I'm really considering flying down on the 24th, and planning on taking
a workshop in Orange County that day from 8 - 3pm. Working out the
details. The leaves are changing here - so beautiful - hope to take some
photos soon. Be blessed. Linda U.
