Why Are You An Artist?

I am a artist because that's what God wanted me to be. So he wired me that way. I have had a creative mind from as far back as I could remember. It isn't a trade I learned like being a plumber or bei…

Happy THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE!!!! (A LITTLE LATE- BUT BEST WISHES To All)

Hi All
I Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We really do have soooooooo much to be thankful for.
I had a lot of fun being part of the traveling prayer journal. While I had prayed ahead of time seeking for vision and direction for my entry that I would put in the journal - well while I was drawing it it really took on a life of itself and I found myself really contemplating on the scripture that I decided on. I just want to say if you have the time to be part of this project ,do it.
I had ju… Continue

Looking and waiting

It's pretty quit here. I hope it's because everyone is in a busy creating.

I am in a time of transition. Anyone else in that stage of there walk. I'm just seeking and waiting and asking for direction. Asking for the Lord to open doors.
Sometimes the doors that you think are going to open wide get shut and the ones that you least expect open.
God has his way of directing and guiding and even giving a nudge when I need it. And at the time I don't
always recognize that it is him doing it.

If anyo… Continue

Happy to have found somewhere on line that has a gathering of christian Visual Artists.
Most of the time when you speak of Christiane Art or Artists it is assumed that you are talking about musicians.
In the area of the east coast that I live in there is a whole mind set that has to be given some revelation about
art in the church and outside of it too.
And Im not talking about a women's craft group in the church, even though they have there place.
Many people think that Christian art would be m… Continue

Yep, I agree with what you say. In 1 Jn 2, it says that those who claim to live in Jesus must walk as he did. Jesus said that his mother and brothers and sisters are those who do the will of the Father. Likewise, this is who I look to fellowship with--those who do the will of the Father (and not those who outwardly adhere to a NT evangelical version of "the tradition of the elders"). Today I was particularly encouraged by a born again Catholic brother who often evangelizes at the same Market I do. He is a "lively" stone and emmanates the Spirit of Jesus, and the Spirit speaking through him today encouraged me. I am always looking for people like this--lively stones (1 Pe)--I don't care if he's "Catholic", just so long as he is born again and ministering the life of Christ.

Hope all is well with you. Next weekend my husband and I are going to a prophetic worship conference. I've been asked to bring my easel and do worship art. I've never tried doing this before, so it should be .......exciting? interesting? Hopefully good for me and for everyone. God bless--

HI Lori--

Yeah, I think many Christians have lost the way this day in age.

"Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." (Jn 17:3)

This is what it's truly all about for us--KNOWING God. This is exactly the thing Jesus warned his many followers about (Mt 7:21-23, Lk 13:22-30, Mt 25:31-46)...make sure that you KNOW him.

If there are any "Christian" gatherings, supposedly in "his name" that are not seeking to actually meet with the Living God (Ps 42:1-2), then they are a waste of time. He is our source of everything, and apart from him we can do nothing (Jn 15:5).

A couple yrs ago I seriously questioned myself, "What is it I'm actually doing each Sunday morning?" When I answered that question honestly, I realized that it was not to meet with Jesus......there were too many other interestes and pursuits aside from this that people within the assemblies were seeking......and it was preventing me from meeting with Jesus....

The Good Shepherd then led us out and into a much, much smaller group of like minded people. However, the only thing these 5-7 people total want to do is seek the face of God. This has been more spiritually refreshing and beneficial than over a decade of "going to church". This is my only aim......to know Christ (Php 3:7-16)....and join with those who are doing the same (2 Ti 2:22).

It's amazing how much God blesses us and gives us abundant life when we put our foot down and refuse to compromise and be a hypocrite anymore.

God bless--
You may want to check out 2 pieces of artwork I did on this subject (you might find them encouraging):

--"What About You, Who Do You Say I Am?"
--"The Jesus Fabrication"

both are on my website www.jtbarts.com

I've just completed a charcoal drawing called "The Lion of Judah Triumphant Over the Drago". I hope to get it up on my site soon. I think it's one of my favorites.

God bless--

Lori,

Thanks for the pep talk - it was very refreshing to hear your positive reinforcement! Since we last wrote, I received word that another article that I have written has been published in the November issue of that same magazine. I am very grateful for the exposure, but I wonder what, if anything, it means in the grand scheme of things. You mentioned waiting on the Lord for direction and I am so with you on that, Sister. I know what I would like to do - work with others who are hurting/in emotional trouble to develop their creative outlet (i.e., journaling, writing memoirs, acting as family historians, etc.). My passion is in mental health and God is not only the Great Healer, but also the Greatest Storyteller (he wrote us into existence, right?) So then, perhaps there is healing in telling our stories.

I stopped by the site link that you listed. Your chair is just beautiful - a real work of art. You are very talented! Please keep the great examples of your creativity coming. :)

Snow? Oh no, perhaps your part of the U.S. will receive the wicked winter weather this year. Last year, exactly a week before Christmas, my (then) 15 y.o. son was playing around in the snow on a board designed for the sand & surf. He hit a patch of ice and came down on his arm, breaking both forearm bones. Since we do not always get snow, this region can get pretty crazy when it sticks. It was a pretty rough winter for us.
Let me preface by saying that I have just recently begun to view myself as an artist and I still feel uneasy about actually calling myself one. That being said, I have written poetry since my teen years (which is unfortunately more years ago than I care to admit...), a couple of my articles and many of my photos have been published in a regional outdoor magazine called Northwest Sportsman, and I have found that I fit the bill for family historian in using my love of journaling/writing, photography and all things color/design in scrapbooking. However, I am intrigued by paints and I recently created my first mixed media canvas as a gift for my mother.
What medium do you consider your favorite? Congratulations on re-establishing yourself - I believe that God can and does work in the secular community as well. I pray for many doors to open so that you can use your gift for His glory and share your faith with others.
God Bless,
Cami

Hi Lori
I really appreciate your comment and I certainly understand where you are coming from, so of course I forgive you. My husband has a similar gifting (as yours) and often offends me, my gifts are exortation/encouragement/evangelism and people always tell me I over simplify matters.
And thank you for the nice comment on my painting. That painting was really an accident made entirely with spray paint.

Hi Lori
Thanks for your input on my post. I guess my thoughts came accross a bit preachy, writing is not my best tool for expressing my thoughts. I'm certainly in absolute agreement that we need others. And I was not trying o educate others on the scriptures etc I was just sharing my felings at that particular moment. I guess my post would have been more appropriate in a personal journal as it was very one sided and not a complete thought on the topic. Thanks for making me think about these things.

Also read your blog and discussion response. That is what I am hoping will happen in New England, that all the artists will come together and encourage and inspire each other. And praying for revival here!

I am working on showcase events that will help the church know what is out there. There is an artist (visual) in Maine who is also doing similar networking. Hope to meet up with her soon. Her website is http://www.newenglandchristianartscouncil.org/
