I just received this outstanding reflection from a friend of mine. Focus has been a key theme the Lord has been working on in my life the past year. We are told to "Love the Lord with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength." So, the questions of vision and focus naturally flow out of God's call for us to love Him with everything we are. Just because we say we have "vision" or "a vision" doesn't mean we're always focused at executing that vision...take it from who knows.
There are so many things that eat away at the vision God has for my life. Focus, like loving God, requires all that I have in my marriage, my family, my work, my writing...what we focus on ultimately determines who we become and what we achieve.
To create great art and to improve upon the gifts we have received from God will require stronger focus, greater determination, and a greater commitment to say "no" to lesser things. Are we really willing to make that kind of commitment out of our love for God?
Linger on these thoughts for awhile...I'd love your thoughts and feedback.
